Project Planning
How to Prepare an Occupied Home for Interior Painting
A room-by-room preparation checklist for furniture, fragile items, pets, access, wall decorations, electronics, and daily routines.
Remove small and fragile items
Take down personal decorations, secure valuables, clear shelves when required, and relocate fragile objects from work paths. Label hardware if wall-mounted items will return to the same locations.
Clarify furniture responsibilities
Ask which furniture should be removed, centered, or protected and who will handle heavy or specialty items. Pianos, electronics, aquariums, and medical equipment may need separate planning.
Plan for children and pets
Keep pets and children away from active work zones, tools, materials, and wet coatings. Confirm door access and any spaces that must remain secured.
Coordinate daily access
Discuss arrival, parking, alarms, keys, temperature, ventilation, bathroom access, and how rooms will be returned at the end of each day.
